Council had unofficially committed the funds last week, but discussing the crime and other problems in the city sparked some emotions among the four councilmembers present for meeting, especially Councilwoman Robin Scott.
"It's just frustrating, and it's a hard position, and you want to help so much," Scott said (amidst tears) "I've lived here all my life, and it's sad ... You just try to make a difference, and no one seems to care what we all go through."To be eligible for the reward, anyone with information about the deaths of Shontae Peterson, 21, of Valley and her boyfriend Carnell Parker, 24, of Coatesville, should contact the Citizens Crime Commission's tip line at 215-546-TIPS.
Scott said she was walking with her daughter Sunday night and "actually witnessed a mother coaching her son to beat up another person."
"It hurt me so bad," Scott said. "How do you really get a handle of all this negativity that is going on in this city? ... We are like lost souls here ... it's just sad ... Some days I don't even want to leave my house and drive through Coatesville. I just don't. I just stay home."

I for one am floored that Coatesville City Council has committed some of my tax dollars as a reward for apprehending the suspect(s). I pay my taxes so that Coatesville has a police force to do just that. If the police cannot apprehend the person or people involved, maybe it's time to find new leadership.

I feel bad for the young lady, but she chose to date an alledged drug dealer. Who paidfor her college bills. Was it Carnell Walker through his enterprising ways.

ReplyDeleteRobin Scott has no business crying about the crime and the City Council has no business whining about it. The City force was fine before they fired half the officers (or pushed them out) and hired a community organizer who hasn't been a policeman in 30 years. You reap what you sow. They wanted to show they were powerful and now we are all paying the price.

What kills me is that the people committing the crimes are the same people they claimed were "innocent" victims of a racist police force. The truth will set you free folks, its the citizens that are the problem - not the police.
Yes, this was the wrong thing to do, what about all the other unsolved murders in Coatesville? The couple that were killed in the house at 4th and diamond years ago, (anybody remember that one?) the guy that was killed at ash park, what about the Pittman boy that was killed near the Elks, Now we have to put up money for EVERY unsolved murder in the city from now on or we will be considered discriminatory.

ReplyDeleteWe all know what there vote would have been. Give away taxpayers money to solve a alledged Drug Dealers murder.
My opinion is that tax payers money should not go toward this reward.
It should be revoked immediatly.
Money can be donated from the private sector or business community.

ReplyDelete1st of all someone in that house knows who killed these people. But for some reason there is this unwritten rule that you don't turn ya bro in. They will never catch this person or persons who killed these people. Second the article in the paper today makes Carter sound like a saint.

ReplyDeleteThe only council persons that have shown some smarts have been Ed Simpson and Marty Eggleston.
Marty was wrong voting for the reward for the murders. He should change his vote and immediatly revoke the city money.
I understand the humane thinking but he must consider the ethical part of his vote and what it means to the next family member who asks for city money for their reward. What will his response be then. It was just a one time thing or that he knew the family of the west end murder victims and not the other victims. That won't hold water
City of Coatesville should offer a reward of $5,000.00 for any information on those people who are involved in setting the fires.That is also very inportant
