Riverwalk project addressed again

City Council voted against a change order for different street lights in the Riverwalk project and tabled another decision about the project’s contract during a meeting Monday night.

Council voted against a proposal from the contractor to change the light fixtures for the Riverwalk project, which will be a 10-foot-wide walking path with benches and landscaping along the West Branch of the Brandywine Creek.

Following this decision, council discussed the project’s overall contract. Reed said that the delay with the light fixtures and another change order that was approved in April put the contractor behind.

Council decided to delay any decisions on the contract until its June 14 meeting. Council wants clarification about whether the extension from the county would mean that the contractor would get a full year to complete his work.

“If the contractor needs more time, he needs to a have a good reason,” said Councilman Joseph Hamrick.

What are your thoughts on these changes to the project? Do you think the project will ever get completed?

And the reason why Coatesville needs a "Riverwalk" is?

Coatesville, well, when you get right down to the nub, there's no good reason for Coatesville to exist anymore.

I hate to say that -- I grew up in the area.

Coatesville does need to exist. We just need to brighten it up if you know what I mean.

Coatesville is the black eye of Chester County. How will a Riverwalk help? How about spending the money to tear down all the old unused buildings, put in some condos, hire more cops, go after the slum lords... how about that? No, they are putting in a 1.25 million dollar recreation path... yeah, ok.

and given the rate of crime in the City...how many people will utilize the walk? Unless you walk there equipped with pepper spray, and a laser gun, you better not go. Robbery, mugging, rape YIKES not my idea of a family outing!

A Riverwalk will not help the city. It will just be another place for the criminals to hang out. You will not get any of us visiting that area.

Good - I'm glad we won't get any of you visiting the area. Keep your defeatist, racist (brighten it up?!) attitudes in whatever town you're already in. The city needs people with guts and vision - not whiners and nay-sayers. You don’t turn a town around only by sitting on your arse blogging.

I live here too. I am not a racist but there is a lot of work to be done to what already exists in Coatesville without bringing in something else for them to take care of. Can we get street lights that work? a street sweeper that actually comes...on schedule? Let me spend that 1.25 million. I will make sure the city as it stands now gets cleaned up before we make anything else!! ( to get ruined anyway)

Stop spending money on the riverwalk. No one would go there unless they are armed.

Coatesville needs more programs for kids to teach them about drugs and violence so that the next generation will have a better impact on the city. Coatesville needs more Jobs for people to work in it does not need a liqour store on every corner and ten chinese restaurants and 5 places that sell fried chicken . It needs a place to shop where they can work at also . Why let busineses come in there and won,t hire no one from the community . So why are they not using the money for something else?
