Company to perform energy audit on city's utility bills

City Council approved a company’s offer to perform an energy audit on City Hall’s existing utility bills which will determine whether the city has been overbilled for services in the past.

The audit “will take a look at utilities we’ve been paying and see whether we’ve been overcharged,” said Interim City Manager Ted Reed. “If we have been overcharged, we will find out what the charges should have been and what reduction in rates the city will get.”

UtiliTech, Inc.'s audit, which will take about six to eight weeks, will be free of cost to the city. To perform the audit, the company will collect one year of electric bills and three months of gas and water bills from the city, according to Rowan.

Do you think the energy audit is a good idea?

Yes it's a good idea. After they get done with the bills can the audit the performance of all the employees at City Hall? Wanna talk about saving money.....

how about re-evaluating job descriptions at city hall and then have an audit?? that would not only save money- but ensure that money spent is earning interest....

Will any of the savings be spent on a animal control officer? It is what our town really needs.

Nothing is "free". Why does Coatesville not have to pay for it? How is the audit being funded? The writer should provide more details and more investigation into their blog.

They are continuing the investigations into Harry the Hack.

I wish Coatesville could do more "green" things. Perhaps get Mittal to donate some space to put solar panels in. I was impressed to see the new lot meter next to the flower shop. This is the way we should go!

my two cents is this.... coatesville is full of corruption - always has and always will. The city is the epitime of a welfare mom... stealing money from the state with all the section 8 housing they get their kickbacks from- and they cannot sustain themselves without. It is the dumping ground of the county and they don't seem to mind. An audit will not create jobs- nor will it change the minds of the crooks who collect a paycheck and keep the "wealth" for themselves instead of giving back to the community in some way shape or form. I can't stand this town any more... and cannot wait for the opportunity to move out.
